Firm's Atlanta Office Celebrates 30 Years

Feb 29, 2008

The Atlanta office of the national law firm of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. is celebrating 30 years.  In 1978, the Atlanta office opened with two attorneys and was the firm's first regional office.  During its first 10 years, the Atlanta office focused on representing national property insurers in complex catastrophe claims.  In 1987, the Atlanta office began diversification of  its practice and today has 23 trial attorneys practicing in a variety of areas, including intellectual property litigation and licensing, complex business litigation, class actions, and major coverage claims.

The Atlanta office embraces its commitment to both pro bono and diversity efforts.  In 2006, the Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. Scholarship Fund committed to donating $80,000 in scholarships over a period of 10 years to the Georgia School of Law.  The scholarship is awarded to students who have overcome hardships or who belong to groups historically underrepresented in law schools and the legal profession.  In pro bono, the Atlanta office is heavily involved in the One Child, One Lawyer program, providing assistance to adolescents who are victims of abuse or neglect and currently living in foster care.  In 2007, Marla R. Butler, partner in the Atlanta office was honored with the "One Child, One Lawyer Volunteer of the Year Award."  This award recognizes the attorney who provided outstanding pro bono legal services and advocacy.

Lisa L. Heller, who joined the firm in 1989, was appointed managing partner of the office in February 2006.

In 2007, Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. was named to the American Lawyer A-List and listed in Multicultural Law's 2007 Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity.
