Golf Tournament and Dinner for Troops' Families at Navy Course in Seal Beach on January 11, 2010

Nov 10, 2009

LOS ANGELES - USA Cares, a nationwide charitable organization serving military service members and their families, will hold its third annual charitable golf tournament on Monday, January 11, 2010 - at the Navy Course in Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station.  Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P., along with Hagen, Streiff, Newton & Oshiro, RGL Forensics and Matson, Driscoll & Damico are sponsoring and underwriting the tournament.

Patrick Shipstead of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. and a member of USA Cares' Board of Directors and the father of an Air Force pilot, states, "While the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are controversial, it is important to remember that it is America's sons and daughters who are serving there and elsewhere at the behest of our government. They don't get to pick their wars, but they and their families must bear a disproportionate burden. Supporting them should be a cause we can all get behind. I have been very impressed with USA Cares' success and professionalism in delivering that support to the families most in need in tangible, critical ways."

The recent Fort Hood shooting underscores the need for military family assistance. Bill Nelson, Executive Director for USA Cares noted, "This tragedy certainly underscores the need for robust public and private sector support of America's military personnel and their families." He went on to add "this will result in many family members needing emergency travel, lodging and other resources. USA Cares has established a Fort Hood Family Emergency Fund to assist with these and other unforeseen difficulties." Nelson continues, "As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue on, this burden has become even greater. USA Cares receives over 150 requests for aid per week from military families. The efforts of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. and the other underwriters of the Tournament are helping to meet these and other extraordinary needs."

Members of the press will be invited to join us on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., at the Navy Course in Seal Beach NWS.  Officers and directors of USA Cares will be available to discuss its mission, accomplishments and initiatives, including the golf tournament.

Organizations, companies and individuals are encouraged to call for more information on participating in the tournament or providing other support.  Please contact Patrick Shipstead or Nancy Newman at 310-552-0130.
