(St. Paul, Minnesota) Hamline University School of Law is honored to be the recipient of a major gift from the national law firm of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. The gift will strengthen the international focus of Hamline's advocacy skills program.

The $250,000 gift will establish The Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. Distinguished Professorship of Litigation Skills and International Dispute Resolution. "We are pleased to be making this gift to build upon Hamline's leadership in alternative dispute resolution, litigation practice and lawyering skills and expand the school's international focus,"said Michael V. Ciresi, chairman of the law firm's Executive Board.

In the first year, a portion of the gift will support the Hamline South Pacific/Asia International Conference which will be held in Sydney, Australia in February, 2000. It will bring together lawyers, business people and policy makers from the United States, the European Union and Australia to discuss international commercial negotiation, arbitration and litigation.

Hamline University School of Law was recently ranked 6th in the nation in alternative dispute resolution programs in the U.S. News & World Report ranking of America's best graduate programs.

Hamline's Dispute Resolution Institute, founded in 1991, has been a pioneer in alternative dispute resolution, which includes the use of negotiation, mediation and arbitration as an alternative to litigation. The processes are integrated into the core curriculum at the law school. The Institute has received national prominence for its Summer Institute, now in its 8th year, and its international programs including the recent expansion of the Summer Institute to Modena, Italy.
