Experience

  • Represents corporations and individuals in patent and complex commercial disputes.  Litigation experience in areas of patent and trademark infringement, trade secret misappropriation, contract disputes and business torts.  Conducted analysis of antitrust claims and potential causes of action, including issues of illegal tying and patent misuse, for national complex consumer fraud case.
  • Represented client corporation in declaratory judgment action related to a settlement agreement addressing use and registration of trademarks.  Summary judgment granted in favor of client.
  • Represented data recovery company in action for trade secret misappropriation, breach of employment agreements, and conversion.
  • Defended patent holder in ownership dispute involving claims for breach of employment agreements, conversion, unfair competition and unjust enrichment.
  • Participated on trial team defending corporation against variety of business tort allegations, including actual and constructive fraud, and tortious interference with a business expectancy.
  • Represented international mailstream technology company in patent infringement suit involving five patents related to mailing machines and data encryption technology.
  • Represented manufacturer of cable and connectivity products in multiple patent infringement cases related to high frequency communications technology.
  • Represented diagnostic laboratory in patent infringement lawsuit related to genotyping technology.  The case was dismissed before trial.
  • Participated in patent infringement litigation related to embolic protection and cardiac resynchronization technologies.
  • Trial Counsel for Guardian ad Litem and Petitioner in complex termination of parental rights trial involving multiple parties.  The case-in-chief presented testimony from 13 witnesses, four of whom were expert witnesses.  The district court found that termination was warranted.  Argued the case before the Minnesota Court of Appeals, which affirmed the termination.

  • Prior to law school, served as a legislative aide to a United States Representative from Minnesota.  Also worked on a variety of legislative issues, including transportation, financial services modernization, e-commerce, telecommunications, and medical records privacy, as a legislative assistant for a lobbying law firm representing clients' interest to the United States Congress and federal regulatory agencies. 
  • During law school, tried cases as a prosecuting intern for the Johnson County Attorney's Office in Iowa City, Iowa.  The year prior to joining Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P., served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Judge David Minge of the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
