Aug 7, 2009

Minneapolis (August 2009) - Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. is honored that partner B. Todd Jones has been appointed U.S. Attorney for Minnesota.  He was confirmed on August 7, 2009 by the U.S. Senate after President Obama nominated Mr. Jones for the position on June 4 at the recommendation of Sen. Amy Klobuchar.  This is the second time Mr. Jones has held the state's highest federal legal counsel position; he was previously U.S. Attorney for Minnesota from May 1998 through January 2001.

"We are so very proud of our partner and friend.  Todd's career has been exceptional at the firm, serving our clients as a trusted advisor and trial attorney; as an executive board member guiding the firm; and as a valued mentor. He has been instrumental in advancing our firm's diversity plan, chairing our first diversity committee. While we will miss him very much, we know his impeccable character, his unshakeable sense of ethics, and his deep commitment to justice will guide our state's highest law office once again with true purpose," said Martin R. Lueck, chairman of the firm's executive board.

Mr. Jones was a partner at Robins, Kaplan, Miller and Ciresi L.L.P. since 2001. A former executive board member, he focused his practice on complex business litigation and corporate criminal defense, protecting client's rights in the course of internal corporate investigations and governmental inquiries.  In 2007, he was named one of the Top 15 Black White-Collar Criminal Defense Attorneys by Corporate Crime Reporter.

He served as the firm's first Diversity Committee chair for five years. Mr. Jones was one of the founders of, and an executive committee board member of, Twin Cities Diversity in Practice, the organization that is dedicated to attracting, recruiting, advancing and retaining attorneys of color in the Twin Cities legal community.

In 2002-2003, he chaired the Advisory Group on Organizational Sentencing Guidelines to U.S. Sentencing Commission.  In 2000, during his previous stint as U.S. Attorney, he chaired the United States Attorney General Advisory Committee, leading this group through the end of the Clinton Administration.

He served on active duty with the United States Marine Corps as a Judge Advocate from 1983 to 1989.  He was recalled to active duty for Operation Desert Storm in January 1991 as a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve. In June 1991, he earned the rank of Major and served as the commanding officer of the 4th Marine Division Military Police Company until his honorable discharge in 1998.

Mr. Jones is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, a graduate of Macalester College (B.A.) and the University of Minnesota Law School (J.D.).

Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. has been named to the American Lawyer's A-List twice (2007 and 2004).  The firm's dedication to its clients and community are illustrated by most recently being top ranked in Chambers USA for litigation, ranking #12 in the country for pro bono by The American Lawyer, receiving the Thomas L. Sager Award by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, and receiving the EPA "Green Power Partner" Award.  Through the firm's two foundations, The Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi Foundation for Children and the Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. Private Foundation, over $25 million has been given since 1999.
