(September 2009) The firm has once again earned the top rating of 100 percent in the 2010 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), an annual survey administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The firm joins the ranks of other major U.S. businesses which receive top marks for their treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) employees and consumers.
The CEI rated 590 businesses in total, evaluating "whether they have a written non-discrimination policy and training covering sexual orientation and gender identity; provide insurance that covers transgender-related treatments; support same-sex partners of employees with health insurance, bereavement and family leave policies; have LGBT employee groups; engage in appropriate and respectful advertising to the community; contribute to community organizations; and decline to engage in any activities that would undermine the goal of equal rights for LGBT people."
Marla Butler, partner and Diversity Committee Chairperson at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. responds, "Our 100% rating affirms our efforts to implement practices and policies that promote fundamental fairness and equality. We are proud to have created an environment where all firm members, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, feel welcome and are provided opportunities to thrive."
